The criminal chamber of the Thiès High Court examined, on Tuesday, February 24, the case of A. Sy, a high school junior. He is being prosecuted for rape and abduction of a minor, A. Lô, who was 14 years old at the time of the events, which occurred in 2023 in Thiès.

At the hearing, the defendant categorically denied the accusations. He stated that he knew the young woman because they lived in the same neighborhood, but maintained that he had never had an intimate relationship with her or engaged in sexual relations.

The victim, for her part, maintained her statements in court. She explained that the accused had approached her in front of her home and offered her a ride on his motorcycle to "go somewhere." According to her account, he drove her to an unfinished building where he spread out a black loincloth before undressing her and having sexual relations with her. The victim stated that she was not in a romantic relationship with him and had agreed to go with him out of trust.

The girl's father stated that a neighbor had seen the accused dropping his daughter off at a local shop. The neighbor immediately alerted the victim's mother, who then questioned the teenager. The girl subsequently revealed that she had been raped by A. Sy in an unfinished building.

The plaintiff claimed 10 million CFA francs in damages. The public prosecutor requested the defendant's acquittal on the rape charge, but asked that he be sentenced to three years in prison for abduction of a minor.

The verdict is scheduled for March 24, 2026.
