«Valise contenant 1 milliard F CFA» : fin du suspense pour Lat Diop
The Dakar criminal court has delivered its verdict. It has declared inadmissible the legal proceedings initiated by Lat Diop against Ibrahima Dieng, former director general of Guédiawaye Football Club (GFC), and Mbaye Sène, a journalist at DSports. The former Minister of Sports and director general of Lonase had filed a complaint against them for defamation and complicity in this matter.
During a press conference and later on the sports channel, Dieng stated that during the bloody political demonstrations of 2021, Lat Diop had wanted to entrust him with a suitcase supposedly containing over one billion CFA francs. He added that the former minister had claimed the funds were intended for the construction of a center in Mbour 4.
The former owner of the suburban club had refused to accept the money, according to his own account. Going further, he had called the plaintiff all sorts of names, including thief. This led to a defamation lawsuit against him, with Lat Diop demanding 1 billion CFA francs in damages for alleged harm and requesting that DSports be held civilly liable.
The former head of Lonase did not get his way. "After several postponements, for various reasons, the judge of the Dakar criminal court decided to declare the legal proceedings initiated by Lat Diop inadmissible," reports Les Échos, which published the information in its Monday edition.
