RSF : Pas de nouveau rapport sur la liberté de la presse !
This is a clarification. "Information is currently circulating about its ranking in a supposed world press freedom ranking. However, this information is not being relayed correctly. It is neither a current ranking nor a recent report," clarified a member of the Convention of Young Reporters of Senegal (CJRS) on Wednesday, February 25.
A note indicates that the Sub-Saharan office of Reporters Without Borders (RSF), in partnership with the Convention of Young Reporters of Senegal, organized a training workshop on monitoring, documentation, and journalist safety. "On the first day, the director of the Sub-Saharan office, Sadibou Marong, and Diary Ba explained the motivations behind this initiative. They contextualized their remarks by reviewing Senegal's global press freedom rankings in recent years, since 2021. At no point was there any mention of a new report, let alone a new ranking," the note states.
Before clarifying: "The World Press Freedom Index is published every year on May 3, on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day. Consequently, the information shared by many media outlets is outdated, or even erroneous."
Note that the training workshop takes place over three days, from February 24 to 26, 2026, at the Maison de la Presse.
