"Il nous ignore complètement" : Ibrahima Lissa Faye révèle la relation difficile entre la presse et le ministre Alioune Sall
Senegalese media professionals gathered this Thursday at the 7TV studios to express their solidarity with their colleagues Maïmouna Ndour Faye and Babacar Fall, who were recently arrested before being released. In his widely noted address, Ibrahima Lissa Faye, president of the Association of Online Publishers and Press Professionals (APPEL), did not mince words in his criticism of the Minister of Communication and the government, denouncing “arbitrary arrests” that violate the right to and freedom of information.
"We have reviewed the entire Senegalese legal framework and international conventions: nowhere is it forbidden to interview a person in conflict with the law. Even CNN interviewed Bin Laden. It is up to the editorial staff to decide whether or not to broadcast information, not for the State to dictate the editorial line," he insisted.
Highly critical of the government, Ibrahima Lissa Faye denounced “authoritarian excesses” targeting the press and reminded everyone that journalists are only accountable to the law and their professional conscience.
"We cannot accept being told how to conduct ourselves. The press is neither for nor against any political camp. It is there to inform, to serve the public's right to information."
He also noted that media coverage of government activities demonstrates the sector's good faith. "A study conducted by the CAP shows that the government, President Diomaye Faye, and Ousmane Sonko are among the most frequently cited figures in the press. This proves that we are doing our job with complete objectivity."
"The Minister of Communication is not speaking to us."
The tone escalated when the president of APPEL brought up the management of the sector by the Ministry of Communication. "Since the installation of the new government, no inter-ministerial council has been dedicated to the press. Neither the President of the Republic nor the Prime Minister has received us. And our supervising minister doesn't speak to us. He completely ignores us. When we write to him, he doesn't reply," he criticized.
According to the head of PressAfrique, several press companies are facing more than 16 months of payment arrears, while the press aid fund, although voted on and transferred to the ministry since 2024, has still not been distributed.
"The ministry is incapable of managing the funds and finalizing the announced reforms. Even the list of media outlets compliant with the Press Code has never been published. This is an untenable situation," lamented Lissa Faye.
A solemn appeal to President Diomaye Faye
In conclusion, he sent a direct message to the Head of State and his Prime Minister: "Mr. President, Mr. Prime Minister, take responsibility. The media sector is going through an unprecedented crisis. Open a dialogue with stakeholders. The press is not an enemy; it is a pillar of democracy."

Où sont-ils allés trouver une question de liberté d'expression dans le dossier Madiambal Diagne ? De ridicules manipulateurs.
