Médias: L’APPEL dénonce les ruptures abusives de contrats et appelle à la mobilisation de la presse
The Association of Online Press Publishers and Professionals (APPEL) expresses its deep concern over the unilateral terminations of agreements and partnerships observed recently between certain public entities and private press organizations, the latest of which concerns the termination of the contract between the Senegalese National Lottery (LONASE) and the Future Media Group (GFM).
The APPEL believes that these terminations without valid reason seriously undermine the economic stability of press companies, threaten the jobs of workers in the sector and jeopardize the plurality of information essential to any democracy.
Faced with this situation, online press professionals firmly denounce these practices, which are tantamount to abusive breaches of contract, express their solidarity with the GFM and all press companies that have been victims of similar decisions, and encourage the bodies concerned to take legal action to assert their rights.
The APPEL reaffirms its commitment to defending press freedom and media independence against any form of political interference or economic pressure.
Beyond this particular situation, the APPEL launches a solemn appeal to all professional press organizations (CDEPS, CAP, SYNPICS) for a joint mobilization to preserve the dignity of the press and contribute to a strong and balanced democracy.
