[Media'tek] Saran Kaba Wagué: The shadow strategist shaping the new pan-African narrative

[Media'tek] Saran Kaba Wagué : La stratège de l'ombre qui façonne le nouveau narratif panafricain

At 28, this strategic communications and public affairs consultant has established herself as a bridge-builder between African institutions and global standards. A portrait of a determined professional, trained in Senegal, who refuses to let Africa have its narrative dictated to her.

Young, pan-African, and resolutely focused on impact, Saran Kaba Wagué is emerging as one of the new faces of strategic communication in Africa. A strategic communications and public affairs consultant, moderator, and public speaker, she supports governments, institutions, and leaders in their search for credible and powerful narratives, balancing local roots with international standards.

At 28, Saran Kaba Wagué embodies a generation of young African professionals for whom communication is a true lever for political, economic, and social transformation. Operating at the crossroads of business, public policy, and international influence, she has transformed her passion for exchange into a high-level expertise.

Graduating from high school at 17, she landed her first professional experience at 18. “I didn’t want to stay home. No matter the position, I wanted to work, learn, be part of something,” she recalls. This appetite for action led her, at just 23, to a management position covering fifteen African countries within the West Africa Think Tank (WATHI). A pivotal experience: “That’s where I understood that Africa doesn’t lack ideas, but rather alignment, coordination, and a shared vision,” she explains.

Her relationship to power, the state, and administrative rigor is rooted in her family. Her father, a health inspector and civil servant, was far from being a flamboyant communicator. "My father was very reserved, very shy. He didn't talk much. Communication clearly didn't come from him," she acknowledges. But from this discreet father figure, she inherited discipline, a sense of duty, and a commitment to public service—values she now applies to her approach to public affairs.

Her relationship with her mother was more complex, tinged with both complicity and misunderstanding. "We had a friendly relationship, but I was definitely the black sheep," she says. From a very young age, Saran was extroverted, outgoing, and always surrounded by people. "There were a lot of people at home. I knew everyone in the neighborhood. And my mother thought that was strange," she smiles. Today, while some of her siblings are shopkeepers, civil servants, or students, Saran is following a path marked by personal initiative, public exposure, and a certain self-assured freedom. "At home, everyone is rather reserved. I was definitely the odd one out," she reveals.

This unique perspective became even more pronounced at APO Group, a leading pan-African strategic communications firm, where she worked with major institutions and multinational corporations. A privileged vantage point. “I saw how Africa was perceived, simplified, sometimes exploited. And that reinforced my belief that we needed to create our own narratives, with our own codes,” she explains. For her, mastering international standards only makes sense if it serves a clear and assertive African vision.

Now at Concerto Global Public Affairs, she operates at the intersection of business and politics. “Public affairs are not neutral. They shape power, trust, and the ability of states to defend their interests,” she says. Her goal is to help African governments, institutions, and leaders craft the right narrative, with clarity, to gain the trust of their stakeholders.

On the pan-African stage, Saran Kaba Wagué continues this fight through her words. Certified in public speaking, moderator, and master of ceremonies, she leads panels bringing together ministers, decision-makers, and investors. "Every time I speak, I reiterate that African unity is not a moral choice, it's a strategic necessity," she insists. She fully embraces her pan-African dream: "For me, the United States of Africa is not a romantic utopia. It's a vision that must guide our policies, our investments, and our discourse."

Having trained entirely in Senegal and holding international certifications, including one from Stanford University, she claims a success rooted in her own culture. "I learned my English here in Senegal. I didn't need to leave to be competitive internationally," she insists.

Fully aware of the challenges, Saran Kaba Wagué moves forward with an almost defiant determination. "You have to want it. You have to work from Monday to Sunday and not let anyone tell you that you can't have it all," she advises young people. Her Pan-Africanist commitment remains her guiding principle: "Building bridges between Africans on the continent and those in the diaspora, strengthening inter-African synergies, fostering the emergence of African champions. That is my mission," she affirms.

    Yallah Bye !
