Presse et Gouvernement : Marie Rose Khady Faye pose les bases d’un « pacte de travail »
Marie Rose Khady Faye, Minister, Secretary of State to Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko, and Government Spokesperson, met with media stakeholders and umbrella associations (CNRA, Synpics, CJRS) to establish a framework for collaboration between the State and the press.
In a statement to Le Soleil, the government spokesperson reiterated that government communication requires the participation of "key players" in the media, with whom close collaboration is essential. She reaffirmed her availability while laying the foundations for a working pact:
"I'm not asking you to side with the government," she said, emphasizing the shared mission of objectively informing people about the transformations underway in the country. She warned against any idea of "monetizing state information" and called on journalists to return to their primary vocation, emphasizing rigor and professional ethics.
The issue of the economic viability of the press was at the heart of the discussions. The minister acknowledged the urgency of distributing the Press Support and Development Fund (FADP), endowed with 1.9 billion CFA francs, while emphasizing that this allocation remains insufficient to ensure the sustainability of the sector. She expressed her desire to see the emergence of a free, independent press capable of maintaining itself without systematic subsidies, and insisted that the press must also be actively involved in its own restructuring.
After more than two hours of discussions, Marie Rose Khady Faye committed to relaying the concerns of the sector's stakeholders to the highest authorities.
