RTS : L’UNSAS dénonce une convocation « vaine d’intimidation » de responsables syndicaux
The summons of several union leaders and staff representatives of the Senegalese Radio and Television Broadcasting (RTS) to the Colobane research section has prompted a reaction from the National Union of Autonomous Trade Unions of Senegal (UNSAS).
In a statement published this Wednesday, February 18, 2026, the trade union organization denounces a "significant escalation" in social tensions within the public company following the summons of Youssouf Kaba, Mama Moussa Niang, Thierno Dramé, Alioune Badara Kane and Abibou Mbaye, all union officials and staff representatives.
For UNSAS, this move marks a worrying turning point in the management of the social conflict. "The summons to the Colobane gendarmerie's research section marks a significant escalation in social tensions within RTS," the union denounces.
Recalling that professional disputes must be dealt with in an appropriate framework, the organization believes that this procedure constitutes "a futile attempt at intimidation that cannot silence internal dissent," the statement reads.
These summonses come in an already tense context, marked by the decision of the Director General of RTS, Pape Alé Niang, to unilaterally suspend the company agreement governing the benefits and working conditions of employees.
According to UNSAS, this agreement is "the result of long negotiations between management and the legitimate representatives of the workers".
Deeming its challenge illegal, UNSAS emphasizes that this "suspension directly affects the purchasing power and motivation of agents, thus considerably degrading their living and working conditions."
Given the seriousness of the situation, UNSAS is calling for intervention from state authorities. "The President of the Republic and his Prime Minister have a responsibility to restore a calm social climate at RTS and to guarantee respect for workers' social gains," insists the organization, which fears a paralysis of the public information service.
