Décès du Pr. Moustapha Kassé : Ousmane Sonko salue la mémoire d’un « bâtisseur du savoir »
Senegal has lost one of its most respected intellectual figures. Professor Moustapha Kassé passed away on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the age of 85, prompting numerous reactions within the political and academic spheres.
In a message published on behalf of the PASTEF-Les Patriotes party, its president, Ousmane Sonko, expressed his "deep sadness" at the announcement of the death of the eminent economist. He offered his condolences to the family of the deceased, the university community, and all those who benefited from his teaching and expertise.
Professor Moustapha Kassé, a professor of economics and considered one of the pioneers of the discipline in Francophone Africa, devoted nearly half a century to higher education, research and the training of several generations of economists.
Former dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, he was recognized for his analyses on economic development and African integration.
In his tribute, Ousmane Sonko highlighted Professor Kassé's commitment to a "sovereign and just Senegal," believing that his intellectual legacy and contribution to the African university will remain a reference for future generations.
