Retrait de son bracelet électronique : La première réaction de Badara Gadiaga
As reported by Seneweb, the senior judge at the Dakar High Court ordered the removal of Badara Gadiaga's electronic bracelet, following a request from his lawyers. The commentator on Future Media Television (TFM) expressed his unwavering determination on his Facebook page. Here is his statement.
"Even more determined to defend democracy and freedom of expression without compromise or compromise"
My dear compatriots,
Today marks the end of the electronic bracelet placement measure to which I was subject.
After three days in police custody, five months of detention at the Rebeuss prison, then five months and twenty-four days under electronic bracelet, accompanied by a ban on leaving between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., an important stage of this ordeal comes to a close.
On this occasion, I wish to express my profound gratitude to all the democrats of our country (ordinary citizens, civil society, political figures), to my family, my loved ones, religious leaders, and the press, which has remained true to its mission of informing the public. I also thank all those who, through their prayers, support, and encouragement, have enabled me to get through this period with dignity, patience, and determination.
I would like to give special mention to my lawyers, who have remained steadfast, constant, and determined by my side for almost a year now. Their commitment, professionalism, and loyalty have been invaluable throughout this ordeal.
As I have always maintained, there is no alternative to justice. It remains the foundation of the rule of law and the guarantee of everyone's freedoms. But it is equally true that the Senegalese judicial system needs profound reforms to become fairer, more balanced, more independent, and more respectful of fundamental rights and freedoms.
This ordeal reinforced in me a fundamental conviction expressed by Nelson Mandela: "To be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others."
I simply want to remind everyone that all the political authorities involved in my arrest no longer hold the positions they held at the time. This is a great lesson in humility for each of us: positions of power are fleeting, and true power belongs only to Allah, the Almighty, the Omnipotent, the Omniscient, Lord of the worlds.
For my part, I remain calm, confident, and resolutely focused on the future. This chapter is closing, but the principles that drive me remain the same: truth, justice, freedom, and a commitment to serving our nation, more determined than ever to defend democracy and freedom of expression without compromise or concession.
See you very soon!
The most important thing is Senegal. 🇸🇳"
