Kaffrine : Le Gamou annuel de Toune Diouma célébré dans la ferveur et la spiritualité
The village of Toune Diouma, in the commune of Kahi (Kaffrine department), resonated yesterday with the rhythms of the annual Gamou, a celebration marked by religious fervor, contemplation, and spirituality. Hundreds of talibés (students), from various parts of Senegal, made the journey to pay their respects to the religious leader Cheikh Akhmet Dame Ka, commonly known as Taskaratoul Fayda.
The official ceremony was marked by powerful messages from the marabout, focusing on human values, social responsibility, and the future of youth. In his speech, Sheikh Akhmet Dame Ka invited the disciples to "show more humanity in their relationships with their neighbors," emphasizing the importance of solidarity, tolerance, and mutual respect in society.
Speaking particularly to young people, the religious leader urged them to "invest in agriculture," which he considers a key driver of development and empowerment. However, he also called on the government to take action, emphasizing the need for real support: "Agriculture requires resources, but also space," he reminded them, advocating for better access to land and financing for young people.
Sheikh Akhmet Dame Ka also addressed the issue of social pressure, calling on parents to be more responsible. He urged them "not to put excessive pressure on children and not to favor only those with a higher social status." According to him, this situation is one of the root causes of the phenomenon of irregular migration, commonly known as "Barça or Barçakh."
The ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister Secretary of State for Urban Planning and Housing, Momar Talla Ndao, as well as numerous administrative, religious and personalities from the Kaffrine region and other parts of the country.
Even though Sheikh Akhmet Dame Ka has not made any explicit request for support from the State of Senegal, several faithful believe that he "deserves to be supported", in view of his constant commitment to agriculture and the daily care of many talibés placed under his responsibility.
The annual Gamou of Toune Diouma has thus established itself as a major religious event, combining spirituality, social teachings and reflections on contemporary challenges, including youth employment and the fight against illegal emigration.
