This Ramadan 2025, some fasting people are spending their days sleeping, sometimes until sunset. This practice, often dubbed a "marathon nap," raises the question: Does sleeping all day invalidate the fast? What is the Sharia's position on this matter? Oustaz Mass Diéye, a renowned preacher, sheds some light.

"If a person fasts and chooses to sleep to avoid prohibitions or protect their fast, this does not invalidate their fast. There is no incompatibility between fasting and sleeping, provided they wake up to perform their prayers at the prescribed times. Sleeping all day does not affect the validity of the fast. The main thing is to respect the religious obligations, especially the five prayers," he explains confidently.

However, Oustaz Mass Diéye urges the faithful not to be satisfied with just sleeping. "Ramadan is a blessed month, a unique opportunity to increase acts of worship: voluntary prayers, reading the Quran, and supplications. Fasting people should take advantage of it to draw closer to Allah, beyond the minimum obligations," he recommends, encouraging a balance between rest and devotion.
