The National Commission for Consultation on the Lunar Crescent announced, following its meeting held this Sunday at the RTS premises, that the crescent marking the beginning of the month of Dhul Hijja was not observed in any locality of the national territory.
According to information gathered from 485 representatives spread across the different areas of the country and after consultation with religious families as well as imams from the 14 regions and 46 departments, the commission confirmed the total absence of observation of the crescent moon.
As a result, the start of the lunar month of Dhul Hijja is set for Tuesday, May 19, 2026, thus paving the way for the celebration of the Tabaski (Eid al-Adha) festival scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2026 throughout the territory of Senegal.
At the same time, the Moroccan Ministry of Religious Endowments and Islamic Affairs indicated that Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
