Visite pré-Magal/ Dr Babacar Diop: " Serigne Mountakha mérite le prix Nobel de la paix "
The mayor of the city of Thiès, Dr. Babacar Diop, made his pre-Magal visit to Touba where he was successively received by the General Caliph of the Mourides, Serigne Mountakha Mbacké, and his spokesperson, Serigne Bassirou Mbacké Abdou Khadr.
A municipal delegation to present wishes
Accompanied by a delegation from the Thiès municipal council, Dr. Babacar Diop traveled to the holy city as part of an official visit. "I came to Touba with a delegation from our municipal council to present our wishes to the General Caliph of the Mourides on the occasion of the Magal and also to receive the Caliph's prayers and recommendations," he explained.
The Thiès mayor emphasized the honor bestowed upon him by being received by the religious guide, who offered prayers for him, his delegation and the city of Thiès.
A plea for the Nobel Peace Prize
Dr. Babacar Diop took advantage of this audience to pay a heartfelt tribute to the General Caliph of the Mourides. "It was an opportunity for me to pay tribute to him for his work for peace, everything he is building, his commitment to peace," he said.
The mayor of Thiès went further, stating that Serigne Mountakha Mbacké "deserves the Nobel Peace Prize." He justified this position by emphasizing "his commitment to building a world of peace, a Senegal of peace, and an Africa of peace."
Commitment to peace at the center of discussions
As usual, the General Caliph strongly recommended peace to his visitors. Dr. Babacar Diop pledged, on behalf of his delegation, "to work for peace and stability," thus responding favorably to the spiritual guide's recommendations.
Solidarity in the face of flooding
Referring to the rainy season and the recurring difficulties associated with flooding, the mayor of Thiès welcomed the measures taken by the government. "I have seen that the government is taking strong measures to combat these floods but above all to help the populations who are suffering from them," he observed.
He encouraged the authorities in this approach, expressing his municipality's support for government efforts.
Dr. Babacar Diop also emphasized the role of his municipality in supporting religious events. "We always support the talibés of the Mouride brotherhood and other brotherhoods. It's our daily work," he said.
The mayor clarified his vision of municipal action: "The primary vocation of a municipality is the living environment, but the second vocation is entertainment. Entertainment brings a city to life." He detailed this entertainment as being "cultural, religious, social, ecological, and sporting."
