Démantèlement d'un réseau international de recyclage de téléphones volés : Six suspects dont 2 Chinois arrêtés par la Sûreté urbaine
The Urban Security Service of the Dakar Central Police Station has dealt a severe blow to a vast international network recycling stolen cell phones. Six individuals of three different nationalities were arrested during a raid on the Marist school.
A large-scale operation
The police intervention followed an anonymous tip reporting the existence of a criminal association specializing in the handling of mobile phones. The raid on the Cité Elisabeth uncovered a sophisticated recycling system involving several nationalities.
Six people were taken into custody
Senegalese intermediaries are:

An internationally organized network
According to the investigation, the network operated according to a well-established pattern:
First step: The two Senegalese traders, established at the Thiaroye market, acquire mobile phones of dubious origin from local repairers.
Second step: These phones are resold to Chinese nationals who dismantle and transform the devices.
Step 3: The Chinese suspects extract a strategic part called a "circuit board" which they ship to China for the manufacture of new cell phones.
Role of Guinean employees: They are responsible for recycling spare parts under the supervision of Chinese nationals.
Major seizures
The search resulted in the seizure of:
- Numerous bags containing spare phone parts
- A suitcase filled with electronic components
- A sum of 1,450,000 CFA francs in cash
- Four cones of Indian hemp found in the possession of Guinean employees
In addition to receiving stolen goods and criminal conspiracy, the two Guinean employees also face charges of drug possession, although they claim that the Indian hemp was intended for their personal consumption, according to Seneweb sources.
Investigation in progress
All suspects were taken into custody for the purposes of the investigation.
