Me Adama Guèye invite le tandem Diomaye-Sonko à tenir les promesses de rupture
"It's no longer about words, but about actions," according to the Diomaye-Sonko duo. At least, that's the opinion of lawyer Mame Adama Guèye, a guest on the "Grand Jury" show this Sunday, August 17, on RFM.
Regarding institutional reforms, Mr. Guèye calls for strong action, particularly in the justice system. "The discourse of rupture is still present, but it has not yet been embodied in structural reforms," regrets the former president of the Bar, emphasizing that maintaining this architecture will continue to subject the judiciary to the executive.
Between promises of rupture and practices inherited from the old system, the former president of the bar believes that this regime is already confronted with its contradictions.
Indeed, Mr. Guèye points to the persistence of partisan logic in appointments. "The Senegalese expected more inclusive governance. However, we are still seeing a reproduction of old practices. Appointments were made based on connivance and proximity to the power in place. And that is a repetition of what happened," he told journalist Georges Déthié Diop.
Furthermore, Adama Guèye warns of the risk of rapid disillusionment among young people if promises of a break are not kept. "The youth, who brought this regime to power, will not forgive a repetition of the old system's failings. The Diomaye-Sonko tandem must prove itself now," warns the founding member of the Civil Forum.

Le discours de rupture ne peut être porté uniquement par ceux qui l’ont découvert tardivement. Il doit s’incarner dans une constance éthique et une volonté de transformation réelle. Me Guèye a été une figure influente du barreau et de la société civile : son expérience est précieuse, mais elle ne doit pas servir à distribuer des leçons sans reconnaître les limites du passé.
Oui, le pouvoir doit faire ses preuves. Mais ceux qui l’interpellent doivent aussi faire preuve de cohérence, de mémoire et d’humilité. La rupture se construit ensemble, pas à sens unique.
