«100 ans de Wade» : le programme de l’hommage national
Originally scheduled for May 29, his birthday, the festivities marking Abdoulaye Wade's 100th birthday have been postponed to June 4 and 5. The proximity of the original date to Tabaski (Eid al-Adha) was cited by members of the PDS (Senegalese Democratic Party) who announced the change at a press conference held on Tuesday.
These sources, as reported by Le Soleil, inform us that the opening ceremony of the national tribute is scheduled for June 4th at the Grand Théâtre Doudou-Ndiaye-Rose, presided over by the Head of State, Diomaye Faye. This will be followed by a public exhibition retracing the political and intellectual career of the former President (2000-2012). In the afternoon, the esplanade of the Grand Théâtre will host a public celebration, bringing together young artists and traditional communicators, among others.
On June 5, a scientific symposium will be held at the African Renaissance Monument. "The meeting will see the participation of leading Senegalese and African intellectuals, including academics, researchers, and statesmen," reports Le Soleil.
