Abus de confiance : Des chauffeurs utilisent des cartes carburant pour retirer de l’argent, le pompiste complice
Delivery drivers Mr. Bâ and Mr. Thiaw are being prosecuted for breach of trust, and gas station attendant T. Barro for complicity. The two drivers, Mr. Bâ and Mr. Thiaw, are accused of having withdrawn 4,700,200 FCFA and 3,018,000 FCFA respectively using fuel cards issued to them by the agricultural and livestock company for fuel purchases.
Instead of fuel, these two accused allegedly withdrew sums of money with the cards, with the complicity of T. Barro, a gas station attendant.
They were subsequently arrested and remanded in custody. Appearing before the Thiès court for flagrant offenses, Mr. Thiaw categorically denied the charges. He stated that he didn't even know the gas station attendant, T. Barro, and had never had any dealings with him.
The defendant, Mr. Bâ, admitted to using his card to withdraw money from the gas station attendant T. Barro in order to refuel at another station. He did not produce any receipts.
Gas station attendant T. Barro confirmed that these drivers gave him their cards so he could withdraw money from them. He emphasized that he did this without his superiors' knowledge, and when they found out, they reassigned him to another station.
The plaintiff, E. Ndione, stated that the company noticed excessive fuel consumption related to their deliveries. This prompted an investigation which revealed that these drivers were using their fuel cards to withdraw cash instead of refueling. The plaintiff emphasized that the company received all transaction notifications.
The lawyer for the plaintiff claimed the sum of 7,518,200 FCFA as compensation.
The public prosecutor considered the facts to be established, even though the defendants attempted to contest them. In his view, the agreed-upon use of the fuel cards had not been respected by the defendants. He requested three months' imprisonment for Mr. Bâ and Mr. Thiaw, and two months for Mr. Barro.
The verdict is expected soon to determine the guilt of the defendants in light of the accusations.
