Agression à Keur Massar : un chauffeur Yango se faisait passer pour un gendarme, le client dépouillé de ses biens
The Guédiawaye Central Police Station's Urban Security Unit arrested a driver for the Yango platform for endangering the lives of others and complicity in armed robbery at night. The suspect, Mr. Diop, allegedly participated in a violent assault against one of his passengers.
A race that turns into a nightmare
The incident occurred on October 18, 2025, around 8 p.m. The victim had ordered a taxi via the Yango app. However, the journey quickly took an unexpected turn when the driver deviated from the planned route and turned into a dark, sandy alley in the Keur Massar forest, Seneweb has learned.
Upon arriving at the isolated location, the driver locked the vehicle's doors before declaring himself a "bandit" to his passenger. An assailant armed with a machete then appeared out of nowhere and seized the victim's iPhone 13 right in front of the driver, who remained passive throughout the entire attack.
To further intimidate his victim, the driver then claimed to be a police officer, showing her handcuffs. After the robbery, he dropped the victim off without contacting either the police or the Yango platform to report the incident.
A few days later, the suspect contacted the victim several times. During these exchanges, he made strange remarks before introducing himself as the driver and demanding the iCloud account and serial number of the stolen phone.
Arrest and compromising discoveries
When questioned by investigators, Mr. Diop denied any involvement in the robbery. He admitted to deviating from the planned route and identifying himself as a "bandit" or "police officer," but claimed he did so to "tease" the victim. He also alleged that he tried to intervene by punching the perpetrator.
However, a search of his vehicle revealed incriminating evidence: a pair of handcuffs and a camouflaged military jacket were seized by the police.
The suspect was taken into custody at the Guédiawaye Central Police Station. The investigation is ongoing to shed full light on this case.
