Bakel : 95 motopompes et 75 tentes aux sinistrés de la crue du fleuve Sénégal et de la Falémé
The national coordinator of the Emergency Program for the Modernization of Border Axes and Territories (PUMA) handed over 95 motor pumps and 75 tents to people affected by the flooding of the Senegal and Falémé Rivers on Friday in Bakel, APS reported.
“As part of an emergency action, we are coming to support and facilitate the resilience of communities affected by the flooding of the river in Bakel. This involves material support with 75 tents and 95 motor pumps,” explained Dr. Ndèye Marième Samb.
She was speaking at the equipment handover ceremony organized in conjunction with the Senegal River Valley Resilience and Community Development Project (PRDC/VFS).
This meeting, chaired by the Prefect of Bakel, Daouda Sène, was attended by the department's deputies, the mayors of the nine PRDC/VFS intervention municipalities, as well as department heads and local producers.
This donation, estimated at around 230 million CFA francs, is accompanied by an envelope of 350,000 CFA francs intended for the handling and rental of canoes for transporting equipment to the victims.
“This donation will provide relief to the victims who are currently in schools, but will also enable producers to resume and intensify agricultural activity,” continued the coordinator of the Emergency Program for the Modernization of Border Axes and Territories.
Prefect Daouda Sène welcomed this support from PUMA which “comes at the right time”.
“The motor pumps have a dual purpose: firstly, they are used for agricultural production but also to suck up flood water,” said the prefect.
"The tents will also allow us to create resettlement sites to move the affected populations who are in schools out of the country and relocate them to these sites, which will be set up this evening (Friday)," said Mr. Sène.
