Bakel : Les crues du fleuve menacent le département

In the commune of Ballou, Bakel department, the situation remains worrying. Houses, agricultural plantations, schools, and mosques are submerged by the waters of the Senegal River. From Ballou to Aroundou, via Yaféra and Kounghany, there is distress due to the volumes of water, with flows varying between 3,884 and 5,014 m³/s from the Manantali dam, which are beginning to surge through Bakel, seriously impacting the population, some of whom are starting to leave their villages, others taking refuge on the terraces.

In Aroundou, the situation has taken a worrying turn, with the shutdown of a borehole flooded by water. This drinking water supply point, vital for the residents, is currently out of service, plunging several households into a delicate humanitarian situation.

These water inflows exceeding the alert level since yesterday Thursday are the result of intense rainfall episodes recorded in the basin at the Bafing Makana and Gourbassi stations.
