Bassin du fleuve Gambie : la décrue se poursuit dans la plupart des stations hydrométriques.
The general trend observed in the Gambia River basin remains marked by a gradual decline in water levels at several hydrometric stations, according to data recorded this Tuesday at 8 a.m. by the Water Resources Brigade of Tambacounda – Kédougou.
The river's tributaries are receding
The main tributaries of the Gambia River are experiencing a general decline.
The Gambia River at Kédougou and Mako: levels under control
At the Kédougou station, the water level recorded this morning was 3.59 meters, compared to 3.72 meters the day before, a drop of 13 cm. On the same date in 2024, the river reached 5.05 meters.
The alert level for this station remains set at 7 meters, a threshold still far away, confirming that the situation is under control.
On the Mako side, measurements show a slight increase of 1 cm, with a current level of 3.45 meters compared to 3.44 meters the day before. In 2024, at the same time, the river peaked at 5.01 meters.
The alert level at Mako is 6 meters, which leaves a significant safety margin.
Simenti and Gouloumbou: more marked declines
In Simenti, the trend is clearly downward. The water level is measured at 6.00 meters, compared to 6.34 meters the day before, a decrease of 34 cm. The level remains well below the alert level of 13 meters.
Finally, in Gouloumbou, the river also recorded a significant drop: 8.54 meters this morning, compared to 8.83 meters the day before, a decrease of 29 cm. In October 2024, the water level reached 11.97 meters.
The alert level at this station is 12 meters, again without immediate risk.
A hydrological situation under surveillance
The decline observed at most stations in the Gambia River basin reflects the gradual end of the rainy season in the Kédougou region and its surrounding areas. Hydrological services are maintaining continuous vigilance to monitor changes in water levels, particularly in downstream areas, where variations can still affect agricultural activities and river navigation.
