Bassin du fleuve Gambie : les niveaux d’eau en hausse à Simenti et Gouloumbou, en baisse à Kédougou et Mako
The Tambacounda Water Resources Brigade (BRE/TC) published its daily bulletin on the hydrological evolution of the Gambia River basin on August 18, 2025. Measurements taken at the various hydrometric stations indicate contrasting trends, with notable declines upstream and significant increases in certain strategic areas.
In Diaguiri, the water level fell to 4.21 m compared to 4.75 m the day before, a decrease of 54 cm. The same observation was made in Sinthiou Malème, where the river recorded a decrease of 26 cm. On the other hand, increases were observed in Afia Pont (Thiokoye) with +14 cm and in Niokolo Koba with +20 cm.
At the main stations, Kédougou shows a water level of 4.46 m, down 32 cm compared to August 17. In Mako, the decline is even more pronounced, with a drop of 61 cm, bringing the river level back to 4.21 m. These values, however, remain below the alert levels set respectively at 7 m for Kédougou and 6 m for Mako.
In the middle section of the river, the trend is reversed. At Simenti, the level jumped by 52 cm in one day, reaching 8.90 m compared to 8.38 m the previous day. The Gouloumbou station also recorded a sharp rise, with +61 cm, reaching 6.36 m. These two stations, however, remain far from the alert thresholds set respectively at 13 m and 12 m.
The DGPRE, through the Tambacounda BRE, recalls that this daily monitoring constitutes a valuable tool for anticipating risks linked to floods and strengthening the resilience of local populations in the face of climatic hazards.
