Bassin du fleuve Gambie : niveau d’eau en baisse à Kédougou et Mako, hausse remarquée à Simenti et Gouloumbou
The hydrological situation in the Gambia River basin shows contrasting trends depending on the monitoring stations. While water levels are generally declining in Kédougou and Mako, a notable increase is observed in Simenti and Gouloumbou.
In Kédougou: drop in river level
At the Kédougou station, the water level measured this morning at 8:00 a.m. was 4.96 m, compared to 5.61 m the previous day. This represents a drop of 65 cm in 24 hours. On the same date in 2024, the level was 4.89 m, still well below the alert level set at 7 m.
Tributaries are receding, except at Niokolo Koba
In Mako: downward trend
The Mako station recorded a level of 4.79 m, compared to 5.18 m yesterday, a drop of 39 cm. The level remains below the alert level set at 6 m. In 2024, it was 4.50 m at the same time.
In Simenti: a significant increase
In Simenti, the level reached 10.70 m this morning, compared to 9.60 m yesterday, a spectacular rise of 1.10 m in 24 hours. However, the alert level (13 m) has not yet been reached. On the same date in 2024, the level was higher, at 12.39 m.
In Gouloumbou: slight rise in water levels
The Gouloumbou station is reading 9.80 m this morning, compared to 9.73 m yesterday, an increase of 7 cm. This level remains far from the alert level set at 12 m. In 2024, the river was at 11.22 m.
Vigilance is always required
These fluctuations highlight the need for regular monitoring of the river and its tributaries. The Tambacounda-Kédougou Water Resources Brigade is calling for vigilance, particularly in Simenti, where the rapid rise in water levels could pose risks in the event of further rains.
