Braquage à Guédiawaye : deux millions F CFA emportés, comment un activiste connu a été piégé lors d'un faux accrochage
Babacar Mbaye Ngaraf, activist and coordinator of the Synergy of Actors for the Sanitation of the Suburbs (Saba), was the victim of a meticulously orchestrated robbery on Wednesday, October 1, around 8:40 p.m., at the Sham intersection in Guédiawaye.
As he was returning home to Malika, a first motorcyclist simulated a rear-end collision with his vehicle. While Babacar Mbaye Ngaraf pulled over and got out to assess the damage, a second accomplice knocked on his door, urging him to roll down the window, according to L'Observateur's account.
While the activist's attention was distracted by the discussion, the same source said, a third offender took advantage of the confusion to open the passenger door and grab a bag from the seat.
The criminals stole an estimated sum of two million CFA francs, as well as several essential personal and administrative documents (identity card, driving license, registration certificate, etc.).
This modus operandi, known as "fake collision," is experiencing a worrying increase in the suburbs, particularly between Pikine and Guédiawaye, a police officer told the daily newspaper of the Future Media Group: "These individuals often operate at night, without helmets, taking advantage of traffic jams or poorly lit areas."
An investigation has been opened by the Guédiawaye Central Police Station. While the victim was unable to identify her attackers, as the area of the attack was under video surveillance, investigators are relying on the recordings to track down the perpetrators.
Babacar Mbaye Ngaraf has filed a civil suit, claiming he wants "justice to be done." Law enforcement suspects this gang of being involved in other similar robberies on the same route, L'Observateur points out.
