The case, which made headlines in Yeumbeul in 2024, has taken a new legal turn. A. Mbaye (38 years old), already imprisoned for the kidnapping and murder of her co-wife's baby, has been brought before the prosecutor again. According to Libération, which broke the story, the detainee attempted to escape on April 2nd.
Taking advantage of an escorted medical appointment at the prison's Medical and Social Services Department, the inmate made a desperate attempt to escape. Just as she was about to complete the formalities for returning to her cell, she suddenly slipped away from her guards. Her freedom, however, was very short-lived: she was "intercepted near the Sékou Mballo camp after running only a few meters," the newspaper reports.
"Headaches" as the only explanation
During her questioning by investigators at the Grand-Yoff police station, the accused confessed. To justify her actions, she simply stated that she was "suffering from headaches that drove her to want to escape from prison."
As a reminder, the same source recounts, A. Mbaye is being held in pretrial detention at the Liberté 6 women's prison following a "thorough investigation." In 2024, driven by destructive jealousy, she kidnapped her co-wife's newborn child before "throwing it into a well." She remains charged with "murder and kidnapping of a minor under 15 years of age."
