Campagne Agricole 2025-2026 à Kédougou : Des pluies soutenues, des récoltes prometteuses
The Regional Directorate of Rural Development (DRDR) of Kédougou has published its weekly report No. 21 monitoring the 2025-2026 agricultural campaign, covering the period from October 9 to 15, 2025.
The data collected highlight generally satisfactory rainfall, harvests in progress and a controlled phytosanitary situation, despite some localized disease outbreaks in rice.
Rainfall generally favourable to crops
Observations made at the various rain gauge stations in the region reveal stable rainfall during the period.
Some isolated rains were recorded in the localities of Kédougou, Bandafassi, Fongolimbi, Laminya and Dakately, confirming a beneficial end to the wet season for crop maturation.
The key figures are particularly encouraging:
Overall, the Kédougou region benefits from good water availability, an essential condition for the success of end-of-cycle crops.
Harvests that promise to be abundant
The report indicates that the majority of crops are in the generative stage, while the first harvests of maize and fonio have already started.
Producers are currently carrying out post-harvest operations, including drying and threshing, in several agricultural areas.
Four waves of sowing were observed during the season, demonstrating good adaptation by producers to rainfall variability.
Yield prospects are considered generally satisfactory, thanks to well-distributed rainfall and mastery of cultivation techniques.
Phytosanitary situation: a return to calm, but vigilance remains essential
On the health front, the situation is generally calm after the attacks of fall armyworms (FAW) reported earlier in the season.
However, cases of rice blast were observed in places, notably in farm 1 of Kédougou and in the Sambagara valley (Afia Pont).
Technical services recommend:
These measures aim to prevent any spread of the disease and to secure regional rice production.
A promising end to the campaign
As the end of the agricultural season approaches, indicators in the Kédougou region are green.
The regularity of the rains, the good performance of the crops and the responsiveness of the technical services reflect an overall successful agricultural campaign.
If monitoring, awareness-raising and technical support efforts continue, the region could consolidate its achievements and fully contribute to food security in eastern Senegal.
