The latest monitoring report for the 2025-2026 agricultural season reveals a mixed situation in the Kédougou region. While pest pressure has significantly eased, rainfall remains erratic, raising some concerns about future yields.

Following recent attacks by fall armyworms on corn, the phytosanitary situation has stabilized. However, a new threat, rice blast, has been detected at Farm 1 in Kédougou and in the Sambagara Valley. The Plant Protection Directorate responded by sending a survey mission and providing the departmental services of Salémata and Saraya with 80 liters of the product “Sultan 480.” Technicians recommend maintaining vigilance and increasing awareness among producers.

Rainfall in the region is a mixed bag. Several localities, including Dakately and Salémata, are showing significant deficits, reaching as low as -156.8 mm. Of the fifteen rainfall stations monitored, seven are showing deficits. Conversely, other areas, such as Saraya and Bandafassi, are recording surpluses, with a maximum of 419.7 mm in Saraya on October 8. However, meteorological services are optimistic, citing seasonal forecasts as "normal to surplus."

Meanwhile, heavy rains have caused flooding in several villages in Saraya Department, affecting 99 hectares of corn, rice, and peanut crops. Local authorities are assessing the damage to provide emergency support to producers.

Despite these challenges, the growing season is proceeding under generally satisfactory conditions. Crops, at various stages of maturity, offer hope for good harvests. The first post-harvest operations have begun, particularly for corn and fonio.

However, phytosanitary vigilance and crop protection remain essential to ensure a successful end to the season.
