Can 2025 : Matam dans l’ambiance de la Finale
The eleventh region of Senegal is already buzzing with excitement for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025) final, which will pit Senegal against Morocco tomorrow, Sunday, at the Prince Moulay Abdallah Stadium in Rabat. Just hours before this duel between the Lions of Teranga and the Atlas Lions, the excitement is palpable in many towns and villages across the region for this match, where the Senegalese team is determined to secure a second continental title, following their victory in Cameroon in 2021.
In the towns of Ourossogui, an economic hub, and Matam, the regional capital, the excitement is palpable, both in terms of the festivities and the decorations. Along the main streets of the neighborhoods, flags are hung from lampposts, and trees and sidewalks are painted in the national colors. Together, the people are showing their unwavering support for the Lions, wishing them another victory.
In the pre-match euphoria, shopkeepers and street vendors are rubbing their hands together. Sales of sporting goods bearing the colors of Senegal have increased, with a growing demand for scarves, jerseys, caps, stickers, and vuvuzelas…
Three sons of the region are in the Senegalese national football team. They are: Kalidou Koulibaly, captain of the Lions, who plays for the Saudi club Al-Hilal; Boulaye Dia, a striker for Lazio (SS Lazio); and Mory Diaw, a goalkeeper who currently plays for Le Havre AC in Ligue 1.
