Chambre d'accusation : Liberté provisoire pour Khalifa Rappeur, après 3 mois de prison
After three months of pre-trial detention, activist and artist Khalifa Ababacar Khoureychi Ba, better known by his pseudonym "Khalifa Rapper," was released on Thursday, September 4, 2025. The Indictment Chamber granted him provisional release pending his trial at the Criminal Court. The activist, close to the Pastef party, had been incarcerated for three months following his indictment by the investigating judge of the 5th chamber for defamation and collection of personal data.
Mobilization of the defense and appeal to the indictment chamber
Faced with their client's prolonged detention, his lawyers initially submitted an initial request for provisional release, which was rejected by the investigating court. Unrelenting, the pool of lawyers, composed of El Hadji Alioune Badara Ndiaye, Ciré Clédor Ly, and Famara Faty, appealed to the indictment chamber, a second-instance court competent to review decisions taken during the investigation phase, according to Seneweb sources.
The indictment chamber's decision to grant Khalifa Rapper bail is a significant victory for his defense. This release comes at a crucial time, allowing the activist to prepare for his trial under better conditions.
