Cheikh Oumar Diagne : "Le shirk est plus grave que l'homosexualité"
In his interview on the YouTube channel Fafa TV, Cheikh Oumar Diagne denounced homosexuality in Senegal. But according to the professor and politician, there are authorities in the country who are doing far worse without anyone talking about it, notably "shirk" (bokalé in Wolof).
“What these people (homosexuals) are doing is wrong. But there are people in this country who are doing far worse. No one talks about 'shirk,' but it's much more serious than homosexuality. Yet, it's in the public eye, in the media, among authorities, everywhere. It's the only sin that God promises not to forgive. There are people who distort God's words for their own interests or those of their group. They belittle the Prophet to venerate other men. We need to tell each other the truth in this country,” declared Sheikh Oumar Diagne.
Although he condemns homosexuality in Senegal, Cheikh Oumar Diagne believes that those arrested and presumed to have committed unnatural acts should not be vilified. "What they do is wrong, but there are some among them who are not bad (...) I do not agree with the way this case is being handled," he adds.
However, Professor Diagne believes it is normal for the serological status of people accused of intentionally transmitting HIV/AIDS to be published.
