The President's communications department assures us that Diomaye Faye did not stray far from the country, surrounded by emergencies. On the contrary, he swears, by spending five days in the heart of the Saloum Islands, the President of the Republic had decided to "get closer to its essence: its lands, its waters, its people."
"An immersion" made up of "encounters and listening, amidst the local landscapes, in dialogue with the living forces and in direct contact with a generous, sometimes threatened, nature," continues Le Soleil. It specifies: "He wanted a discreet, almost intimate journey, in order to favor the simplicity of the encounters, the spontaneity of the exchanges and the truth of the places visited."
Nevertheless, the presidential stay remains a publicity stunt with a touristic cachet, with a holiday feel. Le Soleil, in reporting on it, presents Diomaye Faye "as a promoter of local tourism."
The journey began in Fathala, the nature reserve maintained between Toubacouta and the border with Gambia. "There, in the middle of a carefully preserved savannah, he walked alongside lions," reports the national daily.

Then, the President stopped in a millet field. "A simple, almost instinctive gesture, which resonates like a return to his peasant origins," interprets the same source, before pointing out that for Diomaye Faye "agriculture is not only a pillar of the national economy, it is [also] a living memory, an art of the long term, an invisible link between generations."
The Toubacouta stopover included a meeting with the mayor, the village chief, the imam, the women's representative, and the president of the Association for Local Development. "The discussions were direct and frank, in a spirit of mutual listening," Le Soleil reported, without providing further details on the topics discussed.
Diomaye Faye then traveled the waters of Sine-Saloum, through the mangroves. According to Le Soleil, he visited Sipo Island, the Bamboung Marine Protected Area, and the Némaba oyster farming center. "There," the newspaper reports, "the local women, nicknamed 'queens of the water,' cultivate oysters with know-how passed down and adapted over the generations."
The presidential immersion concluded "with a concrete and hopeful gesture, according to the national daily: the reforestation of the mangrove, a vital ecosystem for biodiversity and coastal protection. Alongside the manager of a local hotel, the President planted young shoots, a symbol of a vision that goes beyond the short term."
Le Soleil states that for Diomaye Faye, who "mixed contemplation and action, immersion and reflection, this trip was a declaration in action: the development of Senegal is not only thought about from an office, it is experienced in contact with its territories, its inhabitants and its nature."
