Commune de Gamadji Saré : la foudre décime une dizaine de vaches à Wouro Maham
Lightning has struck again in northern Senegal. This Saturday, around ten cows were killed in the village of Wouro Maham, located about ten kilometers from Ndioum, in the commune of Gamadji Saré. The tragedy occurred following heavy rains that fell in the area.
For the shepherds, it was a true catastrophe. Powerless in the face of the scene, they could only watch the damage. "We lost everything," laments one herder, referring to the loss of several heads of cattle, the main source of income for local families.
Today, residents are calling on local authorities and technical services to take action. They are demanding the installation of lightning rods in this area, which is regularly hit by lightning strikes and has already caused several deaths in the past.
This tragedy comes at a time of already worrying concern over Rift Valley fever, a disease that is prevalent in certain livestock-raising areas. Aware of the health risk, the herders have requested urgent veterinary intervention to bury the carcasses to prevent the spread of disease.
Between economic losses and epidemiological threats, the breeders of Gamadji Saré are calling for rapid and concerted action to prevent further tragedies in this area, which is highly exposed to climatic hazards.
