Coupures d’électricité : Les explications du DG de la SENELEC
Power outages, which have become recurrent in Dakar and several other parts of the country, are causing consumer discontent. However, Senelec CEO Pape Toby Gaye is keen to put the situation into perspective. "We are a network, and sometimes small malfunctions can lead to outages," he explains. According to him, two main causes explain these power interruptions: insufficient production and technical incidents. "It's not a production problem, because the current capacity is sufficient. The outages we experience often result from incidents or technical failures, particularly during work in certain areas where cables are damaged. This is a situation we regularly denounce," he explains.
The CEO also points out that the connection line with Guinea is another source of disruption: "This line sometimes causes power outages. It's the same situation in Nioro and Koungheul, where the existing substations are insufficient while these localities are experiencing strong growth." Despite these difficulties, he wants to be reassuring: "Production is sufficient. We are working to strengthen maintenance and correct the small incidents that cause outages. The problems we encounter are inherent and structural, but we are addressing them gradually."
