Crues dans la vallée du fleuve Sénégal : 600 milliards F CFA de dégâts
Recurring floods in the Senegal River Valley pose a heavy economic burden for the country. According to the World Bank, losses related to these floods amount to nearly 600 billion CFA francs, including property destruction, agricultural losses, land degradation, and ecosystem damage, reports Wal Fadjri.
Quoted by the same source, the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation issued an alert concerning the rising waters in Bakel, Matam and Kédougou, highlighting the major risks for populations and infrastructure.
For its part, the OMVS points out that, while floods are sometimes beneficial for the ecosystem, they become dangerous when left unchecked. Current prevention and response measures remain largely inadequate given the scale of the damage, Wal Fadjri points out.
