Culture, paix et civisme : L’hommage des Forces armées sénégalaises à Omar Pène
The Senegalese Armed Forces paid official tribute on Thursday, November 13, 2025, to Omar Pène, a major figure in Senegalese music. The artist, recognized for his civic engagement, was honored for his contribution to promoting peace and republican values.
The ceremony took place at the Army Headquarters, in the presence of General Mbaye Cissé, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Vice Admiral Omar Wade, and the Minister of the Armed Forces, General Birame Diop. All praised the initiative, deeming it "symbolic" in a regional context marked by growing security challenges.
Beyond his singing career, Omar Pène has long been associated with messages of social cohesion, peace, and civic responsibility. The military authorities sought to highlight this aspect through a level of public recognition rarely granted to an artistic figure.
"Omar Pène embodies a certain idea of citizenship and social responsibility," said General Mbaye Cissé, praising an artist "whose voice continues to unite across generations."
The tribute comes as the lead singer of Super Diamono prepares to release "Forces de la Nation" (Forces of the Nation), an album dedicated to the defense and security forces. This project, spearheaded with his manager Moustapha Dieng, aims to highlight the work of soldiers, gendarmes, police officers, firefighters, and other civil security personnel.
When questioned during the ceremony, Omar Pène recalled the origin of this initiative: "Their silent commitment, sometimes at the risk of their lives, deserves to be celebrated. It inspired me to create a profoundly human project."
For the Armed Forces, the initiative is also intended as a message to younger generations, who are often influenced by artists and cultural leaders. By combining music and the military institution, the Armed Forces seek to promote civic responsibility, discipline, and solidarity.
The event thus marks a rare convergence between culture and national security, driven by a figure whose impact extends beyond the artistic scene.
