Daaka de Médina Gounass : Saisie de 300 kg de produits impropres à la consommation
Several traders established at the Daaka site were dispossessed of their goods deemed unfit for consumption. Officers from the hygiene and trade services intervened. According to the head of the Vélingara departmental trade service, these "pilgrim-merchants" were guilty of illegal sales or misrepresenting the quality of their products.
Providing an update on field activities, Mamadou Kâ stated: “We seized products unfit for consumption and counterfeit products, which were removed from distribution channels. These seizures included both food and non-food products.”
Listing the food items removed from sale, Mr. Kâ enumerated: "These include beverages, mustard, pasta, vinegar, flavorings, yeast, as well as condensed and powdered milk." For non-food products, inspectors seized soaps, gel, body lotion, and perfume. The total weight of these items was 300 kg.
These seizures are justified by the absolute necessity of protecting consumers. The head of the trade department is also urging pilgrims to exercise the utmost caution and to systematically check the quality of products before consuming or using them.
It is important to remember that Daaka is a hub of intense commercial activity. Numerous tents and bazaars are dedicated to trade and food. These activities are tolerated by the organizing committee, as they are considered essential to the lives of the pilgrims on site during the ten days of this annual spiritual retreat in Medina Gounass (Vélingara department, Kolda region).
