Dakar : Le Gouverneur rappelle les règles pour l’occupation de la voie publique
Faced with the increase in baptisms, weddings, and other events held on public roads without authorization, the Governor of Dakar, Ousmane Kane, is sounding the alarm. "These ceremonies cause traffic disruptions, noise pollution, and risks to public safety," states the press release received publicly this Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
Recalling that the public highway "is a common space intended for the free movement of people and goods", its occupation for private purposes can only be done "on an exceptional basis", and must "must be previously declared to the competent administrative authority, at least three (03) days before its holding" we read in the press release.
For outdoor events using sound systems, "special authorization from the administrative authority" is required. Failure to comply with these rules may result in "immediate interruption of the event and possible prosecution."
The Governor thus calls on the Senegalese "to be civic-minded and to be responsible for all" and urges the Prefects, Sub-Prefects, Mayors, Neighborhood Delegates and security forces to "ensure the rigorous application of these rules."
