Dangou : L’urgence d’une extension pour le principal cimetière de Rufisque
Opened in 1904, the Dangou cemetery, the largest in Rufisque, is now three-quarters full. Faced with this critical overcrowding, local residents, gathered this Sunday for a weeding operation, reaffirmed their urgent desire to see the site expanded.
A century-old cemetery nearing capacity
Gorgui Ciss, a member of the cemetery expansion committee, emphasizes that the available space has practically reached its limits. According to him, expanding the site is no longer an option, but a vital necessity for the community.
He is making an urgent appeal to local and state authorities to take charge of this sensitive matter.
The obstacle of the land title and the appeal for help
The hope for an expansion rests on a plot of land located just behind the current site:
“Fortunately, in the case of the Dangou cemetery, there is a 9-hectare plot of land just behind the site,” explains Gorgui Ciss.
However, this land is subject to a land title, the acquisition of which represents a major financial challenge. "The cost is exorbitant, and we don't have the means to acquire it," he adds. The committee is therefore appealing to the public authorities and other well-wishers for support in financing the purchase.
For the residents, the expansion of Dangou goes beyond individual concerns: it concerns the entire Rufisque community. "This cemetery, the most important in Rufisque, is everyone's business. We call on everyone to participate so that it can finally be expanded," the committee insists.
A priority already recognized
The question of the expansion of Dangou is not new. During the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the cemetery in 2024, this grievance was already among the major priorities of the Strategic Orientation Document (DOS) of the city.
The people now hope that this long-standing demand will receive a concrete response from the relevant authorities.

Sonko ne peut pas régler son problème qu'il soit dans le gouvernement ou en dehors. On lui demande de justifier des milliards, si les montants lui appartiennent où le problème. Yonnu Sonko nekkoucci.
Il a problème avec la justice et même le Président ne peut pas le sauver s'il y'a irrégularités. Mais calomnier tous les jours . Tantôt Sonko est propriétaire de tous les salons de massage du Sénégal, Sonko est un terroriste kamikaze. Il va faire exploiser l'Afrique. Dieu va te haïr pour rien.
Il ne faut surtout pas élargir le cimetière, ça porte malheur. Mettez les morts ailleurs.
