Débat sur les « actes contre nature » : Alioune Tine recentre l'urgence sur la sécurité des enfants de la rue
While the government announced, during the last Council of Ministers, a draft law aimed at toughening the penalties against "acts against nature", human rights defender Alioune Tine wanted to refocus the debate on a reality often passed over in silence: the ordeal of talibé children.
For the founder of the Afrikajom Center think tank, the current debate is obscuring a major human tragedy. "In this affair, we forget to talk about, or even allude to, the victims: the talibés aged 7 to 13 turned into sex slaves," he lamented. According to him, beyond general moral or legal considerations, it is above all "the issue of pedophilia perpetrated against the most vulnerable and marginalized segments of society" that should awaken the national conscience.
Alioune Tine points out that this situation is not new and that numerous NGO reports, including those from RADDHO, have repeatedly warned of the exploitation of these children. This persistent tragedy is, in his view, a sign of widespread failure. "We must acknowledge the failure of society and the failure of various political regimes to effectively guarantee the protection of the fundamental rights of talibés, particularly their physical and moral integrity and safety," he insists.
Far from simply stating the negative facts, the former president of RADDHO calls for urgent mobilization involving all stakeholders in the nation. He believes it is time for the State, civil society, and religious authorities to engage together in a thorough reflection on protection mechanisms.
The objective, according to him, is to determine "how to concretely strengthen the protection of the rights of the talibés, to protect them against all kinds of threats to which they may be exposed, in short, how to permanently get them off the streets." For Alioune Tine, the ultimate goal of this approach is to guarantee their "human safety," which, in his words, constitutes "the main lesson to be learned from this serious affair."
