Dinguiraye : un commando de 20 hommes cible "Sunu Import", la gendarmerie riposte et...
An attempted robbery targeting Sunu Import, a peanut collection company in Dinguiraye (Paoskoto commune), was narrowly thwarted. Libération reports that the incident occurred during the night of May 7th to 8th, at approximately 2:50 a.m.
A heavily armed commando
Around twenty masked criminals stormed the site on motorcycles. The group, whose members spoke mainly two languages, was likely trying to seize funds intended for the peanut harvest. The company's security guard, however, managed to escape and alert the commander of the Nioro gendarmerie brigade.
Exchange of fire and retreat towards the border
Law enforcement quickly deployed to the scene, triggering a fierce exchange of fire with the assailants. Cornered by the counterattack, the perpetrators finally fled into the bush of Taïba Niassène, towards the Gambian border.
The newspaper reports that no injuries were reported among the gendarmes and no theft occurred. The company's cash register is untouched. However, traces of blood found behind the perimeter wall suggest that at least one of the assailants was wounded.
Thus, elements of the Surveillance and Intervention Squadron (ESI) conducted sweep operations in the border area until dawn, the same source added. All health facilities in the region were notified to report any individuals presenting with gunshot wounds.
