Diogo : l'incendie sur le site minier d'Eramet Grande Côte maîtrisé, aucune victime à déplorer
An incident occurred this Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the Diogo mining site, operated by Eramet Grande Côte. A fire broke out around 2 p.m. at the WCP (Wet Concentration Plant), the company's extraction unit.
As soon as flames were reported at the factory, which is unique in that it is located on a floating barge, emergency procedures were activated. The site was immediately evacuated and a security perimeter was established, preventing any human tragedy. The company confirms that there were no casualties.
The fire was extinguished thanks to a collaborative effort between internal resources and public emergency services. The press release highlights the "rapid and coordinated intervention of our internal Emergency Response Teams (ERT), supported by firefighters from the Kébémer, Guéoul, Louga, and Saint-Louis fire stations." The fire is currently out, although teams remain on site to cool the facilities.
In response to this incident, Eramet Grande Côte has emphasized communication with local communities. A specific plan has been implemented to "inform all surrounding communities of the situation," reaffirming that the safety of employees and residents remains the "absolute priority."
The company announced that "investigations will be carried out in the coming hours to understand the causes of this fire and assess its impact [...] on the site's activity."
Eramet Grande Côte assures that it wants to manage this crisis with "responsibility and transparency" and is committed to providing further information as soon as possible.
