The plaintiff, represented by attorney Alioune Sow, rejected this theory, seeing it as a ploy to extort money from his client. According to the lawyer, the defendant demanded 300,000 FCFA from him under the false pretext of financing an abortion. "She knew my client could afford it," he argued, specifying that the hotelier was only asking for a symbolic franc to clear his name.
While the prosecution had requested a six-month prison sentence to reflect the seriousness of the offense, the court reclassified the charge from extortion to fraud. NS Bitèye was sentenced to six months in prison, one of which is to be served. She will also have to pay a symbolic one franc to the plaintiff for moral damages, concludes the newspaper of the Future Media Group.
