État défectueux de la route Ngaye - Pékesse - Thilmakha : Le Cayor dans tous ses états
In Pékesse, a rural commune in the Tivaouane department, the population is in a state of dismay due to the poor condition of the Ngaye - Mecké - Pékesse - Thilmakha road. The poor condition of this section has had disastrous consequences for the local economy. This is evidenced by the dismay that is shaking Serigne Diouf, coordinator of the Kajoor Ca Kanaam movement, and his comrades, who denounce the abyss on the edge of the Cayor River, a situation linked to the poor condition of the road.
Mékhé - Thilmakha, a strategic road in the heart of Cayor, is not just a simple section, it is a vital artery that connects several municipalities in the Tivaouane department: Mékhé, Mérina Dakhaar, Pékésse, Niakhène and Thilmakha. This road also opens doors to Touba and Dakar, and other regions of the country. It is at the heart of citizens' daily lives, allowing them to visit weekly markets, transport local products, access medical care, and allow young people to easily reach their schools and universities.
Since the renovation work began, the situation has become unbearable. Dust is seeping into homes. The environment is degraded, and residents breathe in this red dust every day, polluting the atmosphere and threatening their health.
Furthermore, Pékesse lacks sports infrastructure. Serigne Diouf and his colleagues denounce "the halt, for the past five years, of construction work on the municipal stadium, whose stands are in danger of collapse, which poses growing insecurity." Not to mention the famous weekly Thursday market, which for several decades has welcomed thousands of people and is now tending to disappear, due to the lack of a passable road to reach the area.
