États-Unis : portraits des trois membres la famille sénégalaise morts dans un incendie à Columbus
Mame Khaly Dièye, 63, his wife, Safiétou Diop, and their son Cheikh, perished in the fire that ravaged their home in Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday, November 18. Two other victims were also reported: the couple's sister-in-law, Ndèye Ndiaye, who broke her legs after jumping from a window, and her child. The former is in stable condition, while the latter is fighting for his life.
An investigation has been opened to determine the causes of the fire. "The possibility of an accident is being considered, but the possibility of a criminal act has not been ruled out," reports L'Observateur, which revisited the case in its Thursday edition, notably by relaying the portraits of the missing drawn by El Hadji Malick Diop.
Found at the family home in the Goxu Mbathie district of Saint-Louis, he is the younger brother of Safiétou Diop and the first cousin of Mame Khaly Dièye.
El Hadji Malick Diop told L'Observateur that his wife had been married to his sister for nearly 30 years before leaving for the United States. "He worked hard to obtain his papers and then bring over his wife and children," the newspaper, part of the Groupe Futurs Médias, reported. It added, "In Columbus, he had established himself professionally, as had three of their children. He continued to support his family back home. They also discreetly helped their neighbors and anyone in need."
Safiétou Diop, who was in her fifties, "was the gentle and steadfast soul of the family," her brother explains. "She paid the dowry for my last wife, one million CFA francs," El Hadji Malick Diop gratefully acknowledges. "My first child is named Mame Khaly. She financed his baptism."
The child of the couple who died in the fire, Cheikh, was their third. He was just over 20 years old. He had joined his parents in the United States through family reunification. "A bright child," emphasizes El Hadji Malick Diop, who adds that Mame Khaly Dièye and his wife have three other children, the youngest of all, who remain in Senegal. They attend school in Saint-Louis, he notes.
The victims' family, residing in Saint-Louis, is waiting for their relatives' remains to be returned to them. "If we have the opportunity to repatriate them so they can rest here, we will do so. Otherwise, they will be buried in the United States and a ceremony will be held in Saint-Louis," explains El Hadji Malick Diop.

If its arson may Allah swt help find that sick soul.
