« Faites sortir ces bouillons de ce pays ! » : Mayobe Mbaye alerte sur un danger sanitaire
Parliamentarian Mayobe Mbaye denounced what he considers a silent threat to public health. During the review of the budget for the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, he spoke of the influx of industrially produced bouillon cubes into Senegalese markets, which are increasingly being consumed in households.
"Every day, new bouillons invade our markets. They are the ones that sell the best, even though everyone knows they are ruining our health," he complains.
According to him, these products are directly linked to the increase in chronic diseases such as high blood pressure, kidney problems and diabetes, cases of which continue to rise in the country.
"Elsewhere, they are prohibited."
Mayobe Mbaye claims that these same bouillon cubes are strictly prohibited in some developed countries, notably Switzerland, where they were allegedly invented, thus suggesting a double standard in the marketing of agri-food products. "What we deny our own citizens, why accept it for Africans?" he asks.
The State is being questioned about its inaction
For Mayobe Mbaye, the real problem lies in the lack of coercive measures. "In Senegal, we talk about it every day, but we never take a strict decision. What are we afraid of?" he exclaims, calling on health and government authorities to break their silence.
He insists on the direct link between the quality of food and the development of the country: "If we want a strong, competent and productive human capital, we cannot joke around with the health of the population," he warns.
And they called for an outright ban on these products: "Get these bouillon cubes out of this country!"
