Fatick : Un marabout condamné à un mois de prison pour complicité d’escroquerie
The marabout I Senghor was sentenced to one month in prison and fined 150,000 CFA francs by the Fatick court. He was prosecuted for complicity in fraud in a case involving a fake transport abroad.
Indeed, the marabout was acting at the behest of an individual named Mr. Thior, based in Spain, who was presented as a bogus transport agent. This individual offered candidates supposed trips abroad, all of which were entirely fabricated. Thus, I Senghor's role consisted of performing mystical baths meant to "facilitate" the travelers' departure and renting rooms to accommodate them while they waited for a departure that never materialized.
In court, the marabout initially denied the facts before admitting them, imploring the court for leniency.
The prosecutor argued that this case was merely a scheme to extort money from the candidates, describing the defendant's involvement as "intentional." He requested a six-month prison sentence and a fine of 200,000 CFA francs.
The defense, for its part, pleaded for leniency, stressing that the marabout is a first-time offender.
At the end of the trial, the court sentenced I Senghor to one month in prison and a fine of 150,000 CFA francs.
