The National Fire Brigade's (BNSP) fire and rescue service has taken stock of its operations during the Gamou in Tivaouane and Thiénaba. As of 6:45 p.m. on Friday, September 5, it reported 195 interventions of all kinds, requiring the treatment of 270 victims. Unfortunately, seven deaths have been recorded.

Road accidents, the main cause of intervention

The analysis reveals that 68 operations, or more than a third of the total interventions, involved road accidents. These incidents caused 205 victims and were responsible for three of the seven deaths recorded.

Rapid fire control

In terms of firefighting, the "firefighters" demonstrated their effectiveness by responding to two fires, which were quickly brought under control and extinguished. This prevented more extensive damage in areas densely populated by pilgrims.

Large-scale logistical and medical support

Beyond emergency response, the BNSP provided significant logistical support for the distribution of drinking water, with 810,000 liters distributed free of charge to pilgrims and local populations. This crucial action meets the vital needs of the thousands of worshippers gathered in religious cities.

The detachment's health service also provided free medical consultations to 850 patients. This preventative medical assistance helps reduce health risks associated with large gatherings.

This assessment, communicated by Commander Yatma Dièye, head of the Information and Public Relations Division of the BNSP, illustrates the extent of the security measures deployed during Gamou.
