GOUDIRY : Le président du Conseil départemental réclame un commissariat et des infrastructures administratives

Djimo Souaré, president of the Goudiry departmental council, who is also a member of parliament, is demanding a police station and administrative infrastructure (prefecture and sub-prefectures) on the same basis as the major cities in the country.

On the sidelines of the inauguration of the 64th fire and rescue company of Goudiry, he took advantage of the presence of the Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Mouhamadou Bamba Cissé, to share the ills of his department which, according to him, lacks the trappings of a territory worthy of its name.

"We are the largest department in the country and we are only 65 km from the Malian border. Here, every minute counts when an accident or fire occurs. Security is not an abstract word here. It touches daily life, mobility, health, the economy, and the dignity of families. This brigade is not just a symbol; it is a vital tool. It will save lives, it will alleviate anxieties, and it will strengthen trust between the state and its citizens. I would also like to share a thought that touches on dignity and identity," he said, emphasizing the need for the construction of a police station and administrative infrastructure.

"Goudiry is a border department. We are requesting the construction of a police station in the municipality of Goudiry. We are also requesting the construction of a prefecture and sub-prefectures. We are doing our part. We pay tribute to the diaspora which plays a central role in the development of our department."

Justifying the grievances, Djimo Souaré emphasizes that "in (their) region and sometimes elsewhere, some of our compatriots are victims of discrimination. They still have to prove their Senegalese identity, simply because their surname is not considered typical: Diallo, Cissokho, Sow, or others. Sometimes, they have to explain, defend themselves, prove their claims. I firmly believe that Senegal cannot constantly ask its citizens to justify their belonging to the nation. The State must support these citizens by facilitating administrative procedures in a clear, quick, and respectful manner. In this way, they can be fully integrated into all dimensions of national life: economic, social, and civic."

Before adding: "We believe that the Republic must pay attention to all these territories equally, both humanly and strategically. The territorial equity policies launched in recent years must be continued and intensified. This day is not a simple inauguration; it symbolizes the perseverance, unity, and dignity of a territory that has waited a long time but never given up. If this brigade is being created today, it is not by chance; it is the result of a struggle waged for years with consistency and patience."

The president of the Goudiry Departmental Council paid tribute to all those who advocated, prepared, and argued, sometimes behind the scenes. According to him, it was President Macky Sall who enabled Goudiry's inclusion in the brigade expansion program. "It was under his leadership, with Sidiki Kaba as Minister of the Interior, that the work began, and this deserves recognition. The people of Boundou, grateful, thank him for all the infrastructure projects completed. Goudiry is a strategic territory for Senegal," he concluded.
