Grand Magal : Une hausse alarmante des accidents routiers entre 2024 et 2025
Official figures from the Grand Magal of Touba reveal a worrying deterioration in road safety between the 2024 and 2025 editions. Comparative data published by the National Fire Brigade show a significant increase in both the number of accidents and victims during the 131st anniversary of the pilgrimage.
An alarming progression in figures
The 2024 edition of the Grand Magal recorded 309 road traffic accidents resulting in 842 victims, including 16 deaths. This already heavy toll unfortunately seemed set to worsen.
The 2025 edition confirms these fears with 341 accidents, 32 more than the previous year. These accidents caused 982 victims (+140 compared to 2024) and, above all, 29 deaths (+13 deaths), bringing the number of fatal victims to its highest level in several years.
Road deaths on the rise
The most worrying increase concerns road deaths, which increased by 81% in a single year, rising from 16 to 29 deaths. This dramatic increase of 13 additional deaths calls into question the effectiveness of prevention and safety measures on the roads leading to Touba.
The fatality rate of accidents also deteriorated, increasing from 1.9% in 2024 to 3.0% in 2025, indicating that accidents are not only more numerous but also more serious.
Multiple explanatory factors
This deterioration is explained by several converging factors identified by the authorities. The weather conditions of the 2025 edition, marked by a rainy winter, made the roads particularly slippery, increasing the risks of skidding and loss of control.
Increased traffic is also a determining factor. The 2025 Grand Magal attracted a record number of pilgrims, generating even more traffic on already saturated road infrastructure.
Risky behavior also persists: speeding motivated by the urgency of reaching Touba, dangerous overtaking, failure to respect safety distances and various carelessness aggravated by fatigue from long journeys.

Tous les péages devaient prendre en compte tous les usagers avec ou sans carte afin d'éviter les zigzag sur les voies non réservées comme avant (pas de gendarmes sur les voies).
Etant dans l opposition vous aimiez voir le malheur s abattre dans le pays. Alors ces malheurs vous hanteront.
Par exemple si on construisait des lignes TERs reliant Touba avec tous les autres régions du pays et exiger qui soient navettes de transport durant le Maggal et les autres cités réligieux . En plus Touba doit avoir un Grand aéroport international le reliant au reste du Monde.
